Gun Safety (These are just the Basics)

1.         Learn the characteristics of your specific firearm.     

2.        Treat every firearm as if it is loaded!!

3.        Always point the muzzle in a safe direction.   

4.        Keep your finger off the trigger.      

5.        Never rely on a mechanical safety.     

6.        Keep gun unloaded and action open until ready to      shoot.

7.        Know your target and what's beyond it. 

8.        Use only the correct ammunition for your firearm.      

9.        Know what to do in the event of a misfire.     

10.       Wear protective ear and eye equipment. 

11.       Keep firearm free from obstructions and well maintained.

12.       Don't modify your firearm.     

13.       Do not mix guns with alcohol, drugs, or fatigue.

14. Store and or Lock to prevent unauthorized use.

15. Store Ammunition in a Separate Locked Container.

16. Always Respect Others Property and Privacy.

17. Hunt Only What and Where you are Legally Allowed.

18. Never Leave a Gun where someone else can get and use it.

Again, this is just the basic list, please be safe with firearms, all firearms.  Take classes or ask a friend with experience for help.  Guns can be a great deal of fun for the whole family, but they must be treated with respect.

 

One great class for the whole family is Hunters Education.  This is even true if you don’t want to hunt.
